Huber at the Helm

Heading out the door for the Official Mivaland Beach Party, but wanted to offer a few more pictures to tide you over. There are here.

Only got about three hours sleep and was planning on skipping the beach gig, but there's too many people I haven't been able to meet yet. Like George Bancroft (aka Supreme DocMan) and Jeremy from Tech Support (who Rebus ought to quit beating up on - GOTCHA Bruce!). Poor feller stepped into some whitewater on the Merchant mailing list & I just gotta toss him a lifeline. You mean old list members ought to leave these poor TS folks alone. Heck, they finally get back to posting on the lists so you don't want to spank 'em too soon. Besides, I can't join in the fracas through this damnable laptop and I hate missing a chance to insult somebody.

Today was more 'on task', getting down to the nitty-gritty & mucking around with code. Went to the Merchant course track instead of the Miva Script courses. It truly was a cruel thing to force me to choose between the two. But Merchant has more cool code than any other Miva app I've seen, so it was kinda like paying homage at Mecca. I've been brought to sniffles just looking at some of Merchant's code. Damn fine piece of work & still oozing potential for us Miva-obsessed types.

But it also was a forced choice between getting to learn from either Jeff Huber or Jon Burchmore. That's like making a martial arts freak choose between a training session with Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. No matter which you pick, you are left feeling you missed something; but you do not regret the time spent with either. Bad analogy, but you get the picture.

more to come after the party...

Now just a little before 5:00am, and I wanted to close this page before falling off into a stuporus oblivion.

Had a breathtaking evening among friendly people, smiling faces & talented coders. Had the privilege of hanging out again with all those wonderful Miva staffers. When you are just a half-assed code scraper, it makes you feel rather dwarfed on the one hand, privileged on the other. I tried to carry around a mojo collection bag but found it overflowing so quickly that I wished I had carried a big barrel instead.

Miva put on a tasty ocean-side party on the edge of San Diego Bay. Beer, burgers and smiles were the order of the evening and a wonderful time was had by all. Talked about damn-near nothing but Miva from around 6:00 till 10:00, when a small cadre of user list devotees rumbled off in the last chartered bus of the evening. After we closed a couple of popular San Diego bars (and still were not done), I ended up chatting with Scott Shepard until the cows started to moo (hell of a killer conversation Scott!). Alcohol and San Diego mix well. Live & learn.

I will skip the Saturday boat ride and instead gather my thoughts to write a conclusion to this event. I'm hungover enough to pack, sack & bail.
